Flying my Kite on Daytona Beach

It was the second piece I started in class at Dunedin Fine Art Institute after losing my vision, but the first I finished. It was the first time I painted words onto my canvas – I wanted to just own my reality. I Can’t See. So I did.

I had spent the weekend after I started this piece with friends on Daytona Beach, and when I returned to the painting, the cool colors reminded me of playing in the ocean. I began journaling, I wonder how I can make waves, and make this look like the ocean.

It occurred to me, with my vision impairment and inability to really render something in detail, perhaps I could tear these weird papers my teacher had, into triangles, and then collage them onto the canvas, as waves. So I did. I loved the result! Kinda kooky crazy Atlantic Ocean surfy chaos. I added myself into it flying my kite, while my friend was body surfing. He actually appeared in the lower left corner, I didn’t have to add him, he was just there.

This is how the Intuitive Painting process works – the painting knew what it was, before I did.

Here’s the progression and the poem.

I Can’t See It’s the best thing ever EVER To happen to me! What if the light came from everywhere AHHHHH remember that time you painted those peace signs
